July 31 Third Day at Sea

Another gray day with “moderate” seas and intermittent rain thought this afternoon it seems to be getting a little clearer with lighter skies and some bits of sun through the clouds.

This morning we watched an Insights Lecture by Dr. Emerson Smith on the “Battle on the Atlantic between Ocean Liners and Airliners in the 1950s.” Then another Insights Lecture by Dr. Joe Golden on “Tornado-chasers: Recent Triumphs and Tragedies.” And after the noon announcement and dropping another hour, we listened to Jim Kennedy tell “Stories of Space Exploration.”

Tomorrow we arrive at Isafjordur and visit Vigur Island is the weather is calm enough to transfer by tender to shore and take the boat to the island.

Later this evening after I had written the above two large birds appeared and spent some cruising next to the ship. With this picture we identified them as gannets! The one with the dark back is probably an immature gannet.
