Monday, 9 September – Dover White Cliffs, Bury St, Edmunds

The plan for today was to see the White Cliffs of Dover – but the weather had other ideas. We did drive by Dover Castle because the winding road to the Cliffs visitor center went that way.

It was raining so hard by the time we got to the visitor center, even hardened British hikers were waiting it out in the cafe! The only pictures I got were of the ferry harbor below the center:

We had to leave in order to make the long drive to Bury St. Edmunds where the Embroiderer’s Guild of America Extended Study Program began. I’d gotten an email a few days before that Helen Stevens was ill and her doctor recommended that she not teach the class. So I was not sure how the next few days would turn out.

We arrived in Bury St. Edmunds mid-afternoon and had plenty of time to settle in to our room. The original schedule called for a meet & greet, but we arrived to find that it had been cancelled.
