Birth*6 August 1758 John Tubb was born on 6 August 1758 at Orange, North Carolina.1,2
He was the son of William Tubb and Elizabeth Tabor
Military Service*between 1775 and 1780 John Tubb between 1775 and 1780 South Carolina.1
Marriage*2 February 1777 He married Karenhappuck Tubb, daughter of George Tubb and Mary Turner, on 2 February 1777 at Rutherford, North Carolina.
Census*1790 John Tubb appeared on the census of 1790 at Greenville, South Carolina; 1 male under 16, 1 male over 16, 5 females, 1 slave.3
Marriage*after 1821 He married Feraby Harrison after 1821.
Will*17 September 1835 John Tubb left a will on 17 September 1835 at Perry, Alabama; Sharon Carter posted a copy of the will of John Tubb in the Perry Co AL news group and in a later posting said "After the death of Karenhappuck in late 1821, John married 2nd Feraby Harrison She was living when he died and was listed as an heir in his will.
(This document recorded on Will Book A page 73 Perry Co Al-Judge of
Probate)".

John & Karenhapuck moved their family, along with other Tubb families, to Greenville Co., SC, ca 1780 and were listed in the census of that county in 1790 and 1800. In early 1800, probably in the first decade, they moved to Dickson Co., TN and ca 1817 they moved to Perry Co., AL where they remained until Thier deaths. John Tubb did service in the American Revolution, enlisting in September 1775 under Capt. William Lang of Col. Richardson's Regt. in SC. He was in the Tories at Reedy River and was captured. After he was release, or capture, he later joined a unit in NC, serving as Captian. He was in the Battle of Kings Mountain, where he was wounded in the right arm and side.
John & Karenhappuck Had at least six children. However, there were five children listed in their H/H in the census of 1790 and ten in 1800. There were only six identified in John's Perry Co., AL Will of September 17, 1835. Thus if there were 10, four of them apparently died, without issue prior to date of the Will.
After the death of Karenhappuck in late 1821, John Married 2nd Feraby Harrison. She was living when he died and was listed as heir in the Will. (Sources of information on this families includes, U.S. Census Records, John Tubb Will Perry Co., AL, "Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers and Patriots of Alabama", "South Carolina Roster of S.C. Patriots in American Revolution" and "The Tubbs Connections"). The book "THE TUBB FAMILY of MONROE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI AND THEIR KIN".

I have a copy of papers written by Miriam Jones Springfield, who is a direct descendent of John Tubb through the Jeptha that it speaks of in this will. She found this will
recorded in Monroe Co.Courthouse,Aberdeen ,Miss [Will book #1-pages #' 137-139. ] The settling of his will stayed in Probate court until the Feburary term,1855.[John had died in 1839.]
Seems as if the daughter, Malinda Tubb Askew, who had stayed in Tennessee when the other part of the family came down to claim her part of the estate. She wound up receiving $300.instead of the $5.left her in the will.
Mrs.Springfield gave her writings to the Monroe Co.Historical Society. mftubb2000@yahoo.com.4

Note* John Wilson Tubb John Tubb was the first child of Jamrs and Mary "Polly" (Fisher) Tubb And was born in Tryon Co. (now Rutherford Co. ) North Carolina. After the American Revolution, his parents moved to Greenville County, South Carolina. John was probably 5 or 6 years of age at the time of this move. In ca 1797 he was married in Greenville County to Mary "Polly" Benson who was born in North Carolina, Feb. 2, 1781.
"Polly" Benson is believed to have have been the grand daughter of Pure Benson who died in Greenville Co., SC before Feb. 14, 1799. Polly is not listed as an heir in the estate settlement of Prue Benson, however, a "John Tubb" is listed as one of the appraisers. (The Heirs listed in the final estate settlement, dtd Apr. 6, 1802 are as follows: Thomisom Henry Benjamin Benson, Henry Benson, Sarah Humes, Enoch Benson, Frances Benson, William Benson, Robert Benson, Zachriah Benson, George Benson, Joshua Benson, and Mary Stigler. The Mary Stigler entry reads "Mary Stigler recd full amt from ancestor Clary James - also recd full amt from ancestor Elizabeth Benson". Clary James may have been a deceased daughter of Prue Benson and mother of Mary Stigler. The Elizabeth Benson mentioned may have been Prue's wife or daughter who preceded him in death. This is, however, speculation. As Polly Benson was listed as an heir, this would indicate she was not a daughter of Prue Benson, but she could, however, have been a daughter of one the sons listed. If this latter was the case, the likley canditate for her father would be either Benjamin or William as she gave these to twoof her sons. The most probable of these would be Benjamin Benson, as Polly's son Benjamin was older than her son William.
John and Polly Tubb left South Carolina in the first decade of the 1800's and moved to Smith County, Tennessee. Census Records of Monroe Co., MS, where they subsequently moved, reflects that Benjamin Tubb, belived to be their second child, was born in South Carolina. Census records of the same county show John Tubb, Jr., believed to be their fifth child, was born in 1906/1807 in Tennessee. This would place their arrival in Tennessee in 1806/1807 or eailer.
John and Polly Tubb remained in Smith Co., TN until after July 1837, when court records show that he resigned the office of Justice of Peace in Smith Co., TN, District 21. It is not known whether this resignation was due to a planned move to Mississippi or to other factors.
On Jan 1839, he obtained an original deed to a 40 acre tract in Monroe Co., MS, described as SW 1/4 NE 1/4 S32 - T12S - R18W. (This land is located on the south side of the current Amory - TCR (Hatley) Road, at the top of what now is known as "Dolly Tubb Hill"). Thus their move to Monroe County took place sometime between July 1837 and the end of 1838.
Two of their children, John, Jr. and Benjamin Tubb , had preceded them to Monroe County in 1833 and 1836 respectively. Four of their children William, Benson, Elizabeth and Jepthia came to Monroe county with them and was listed in the 1840 Census of Monroe County. One son, George, may have come with but was gone from the Head of Household in 1840. Wilson their oldest child was deceased. His widow and children remained in Tennessee. Daughter Frances and her husband had moved to Arkansas. Didame & Malinda, both married remained in TN.
