Letters were granted 6 Oct. 1817 and, on 6 Apr. 1818, Alfred Gary made choice of Hartwell Gary as his guardian, Alfred then being of age to choose a guardian. He attended Sparta Academy, tuition ($8.00) and ($9.00). Court records mention Alfred Gary from 1823-1828.
The family was living in Coosa Co., AL. in 1850 though several of their children and grandchildren were living in Georgia. They eventually settled in Rockford, Coosa Co., AL. but lived for some time in Newman, Coweta Co. GA.
Alfred was not listed in the 1860 Federal Census, so it is assumed he died early in 1860.

(Gary) Mathis, viz: Mary, Charles and Susan Mathis.
The family first settled in Baldwin Co., GA. where they were living in 1850, thence, in 1855, to Kilgore, Rusk Co., TX. where he died. His widow, Boma Gary, was living in Rusk Co., TX. in 1880 with her daughter, Evie Gary Sandford, and the Sandford children.
