Note* He On 28 Feb. 1828, Jacob Gary of Newberry Co., SC, sold to James Newman, of the same place, 126 acres on Bush River bounded by Larkin Waldrop, Thomas Butler, Joseph and Giles Pitts and Richard S. Cannon, it being part of a tract of land originally granted to Rev. Samuel Newman; sig. Jacob Gary, dower, wife, Nancy Gary. This is without a doubt the parents of Newman Gary of Texas .
On 12 Dec. 1835, received into Bush River Baptist Church, Nancy Gary, wife of Jacob Gary and, on 7 Nov. 1840, dismissed by letter, Sister Nancy Gary. Hampson Gary stated his grandparents died young but, after the family home had been changed to Alabama, Lawrence Brainard recited that all of the South Carolina Garys were descendents of Charles Gary, hence the descendents try to find the connection to that family.

William Gary and wife, Ruth Gary (He was called William Whitten Gary).
In 1820, William W. Gary was over 21 with two sons and two daughters. On 1 Apr. 1822, he was in the 3rd Division, 7th Brigade and 22nd Regiment of Alabama.
In 1834, William, Isaac and Ruth Gary purchased Government land and on 22 Aug. 1836, they sold the same land to Joseph White for ($3,360.00) in Greene Co., AL.
William Gary was the first to settle Bosque Co., TX in 1851, on a grant of 640 acres. He erected a log cabin six miles west of Meridian, Bosque Co., TX. Other men of the Gary clan followed in 1854; Matt, Geoffrey and Issac Gary.
