Nathan Breede Harlan, son of James Harlan (No. 199), telling of his Uncle Joshua's death, as he had heard it from his father, said: "It was during the Revolutionary War. The officers sought to conscript him, but being a Quaker, he was opposed to war. He was hiding out not far from home. A sister's daughter, I think it was, took his dinner to him, and it was supposed tht the man who shot him saw where she went. That afternoon father was at work in the field and heard a gun go off near where his brother was hiding, and immediately went to him and found him shot through the thigh and bleeding rapidly. As soon as Uncle saw him, he said: 'Jeemes, I am powerful dry.' Having no vessel, he ran to a branch, filled his wool cap with water, took it to him and then ran to the house for help. They placed him upon a sheet, and started to the house, but he died before they could reach it." p. 38.1,2

He was the son of Valentine Hollingsworth Senior and Ann Calvert
(Witness) Immigration10 December 1682 Valentine Hollingsworth Junior witnessed the immigration of Valentine Hollingsworth Senior on 10 December 1682 at Delaware River, Chester, Pennsylvania; Valentine now had enough. If a woman could start and seize his goods, what would happen next year! Anyway, William Penn had been in his area and had promised religious freedom to him and his in Pennsylvania. So, on the 25th day of the 5th month, 1682, Valentine Hollingsworth asked Lurgan Monthly Meeting, Ireland, for a certificate of removal for himself '& also for ye rest yt go with him.' He probably sailed within a month. His son, Samuel Hollingsworth, in making a deposition before the Mayor of Philadelphia, said, "they came into Pennsylvania in the latter part of 1682, and were at Chester, Pennsylvania, the say that Willilam Penn arrived." From this it appears that Valentine and all his family except Henry, probably arrived a month before the arrival of Penn.

Valentine Hollingsworth, Sr. transported his family group and John Musgrave, an indentured servant, aboard The Antelope, with Edward Cooke, Master, from Belfast, Northern Ireland, as part of William Penn's Quaker settlements of Pennsylvania, arriving during ye 10th month of 1682?
